2013 Mitsubishi Lancer: Although it’s still way far out in the future, there are whispers that the next-generation Lancer Evolution will come with a hybrid option. Mitsubishi’s PX-MiEV is the company’s plug-in hybrid that uses a 1.6-liter engine, assisted by two electric motors, but Mitsu says its system can be used as both a series hybrid and parallel bybrid.
The plan is to mate the system to the Evo’s S-AWC system. While no details of the car are known yet, we hear that it will produce a combined 300-plus bhp and be just as quick as the gasoline-powered Evo of today. It should get more than 30 mpg, maybe 35. One thing we know for sure is that Mitsubishi is aggressively pursuing hybrid options for all of its cars.
